Laskhar Express on its way to Mumbai from Agra was today halted at Khandwa station for nearly more than 30 minutes after smoke was noticed billowing from a general compartment, railway officials said.

The train chugged off the Khandwa station after smoke emitting from a fan of the general compartment was put off, they said, adding that incident might be a fallout of a short circuit.

First the smoke was noticed in this compartment while the train was en route to Khandwa. The train was then stopped and the smoke was extinguished, they said.

But when the train reached Khandwa station, the smoke was noticed again following which the passengers on the jam-packed compartment were asked to get down and it was doused by railway officials and it restarted its journey after a thorough check and paperwork, they said.

Compartment number 07409 was second from the engine, they said, adding all passengers in the compartment were safe.
